Treeation undertook a deer fencing project near Gloucester in Spring 2015. The 100m deer fence was required to allow a recently cut hazel coppice area to rejuvenate without browsing and grazing pressure from rabbits and deer. The team managed to utilize all the wooden fencing materials from the material cut while coppicing. This helped in reducing costs to the landowner and was a useful way of utilizing the freshly cut materials.
We used heavy duty plastic deer fencing that comes in 100m rolls. The idea being that once the coppice stools have grown past the browsing height of roe deer (1.3m) the fence can be dismantled and used on another area of coppice. We hope to get several uses out of this fence helping to reduce the initial outlay.
