General Veteran Tree advice
Ancient and veteran trees are highly valuable beings with cultural, historical, ecological and social importance. They are a key stone species that provide a diverse myriad of interconnected habitats for a vast number of flora and fauna species, some of which are so niche they only coexist with veteran trees.
As trees age, they become more and more ecologically important. Through life's challenges such as storm torn branches, decay, sporadic droughts and and bouts of disease and pest invasions, the opportunity to adapt, recover and regenerate are the very essence of how
trees are capable of living to very old ages.
Veteran trees are considered as irreplaceable habitats as they take dozens if not hundreds of year to develop. They flaunt a vivid pallet of gnarls, twists, hollows and drip with wildlife ...true survivors linking us back to our historical and cultural past, providing us with creative inspiration, marvel, retreat and a place in nature to reflect.
Veteran tree Management
Veteran trees are a very valuable but vulnerable resource, a key aim is to manage them and their surroundings to live as long as possible. Sadly they are in rapid decline due to the impact of urban sprawl, changing landscapes and grazing animals.
Veteran trees are sensitive to change and require specialist knowledge and skills to protect and conserve them.
We are qualified to VetCert consulting level and have many years of experience working with veteran trees and ancient woodlands.

TESTIMONIAL
Recently Patrick was engaged to conduct a Veteran Tree Surveyand subsequent management plan for one of our Learning sites on the Slimbridge Estate - This ancient woodland contains many Veteran Trees not only within the woodland, but also adjacent woodland pasture trees. Unfortunately some of these trees are naturally in decline, and due to the high level of foot fall in these areas it was necessary to carry out a full tree survey.
Patrick’s approach was sympathetic and took into account that as a result of this decline, these trees have become rich in habitat. Patrick didn’t just survey these veteran trees, he crucially took the time understanding this sites use - producing another comprehensive report.
Patrick has conducted himself in a professional and safe manner - we shall continue to employ him as and when required.
I am pleased to recommend Patrick without reservation.
